How to change Microsoft Office product key


Problem: Need to change Office Product key without uninstalling and reinstalling Office.


Quick Solution:


1. Backup the registry.


2. Locate and then click the following subkey, depending on your version of Windows and of Office:

32-bit versions of Office
2007 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration

2003 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Registration

2002 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Registration


64-bit versions of Office
2007 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\12.0\RegistrationOffice

2003 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\11.0\RegistrationOffice

2002 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Registration


3. Delete the following two registry keys.
a. Right-click the DigitalProductID registry entry, click Delete, and then click Yes.
b. Right-click the ProductID registry entry, click Delete, and then click Yes


Close registy editor and open office product. It will prompt to activate and request the new license key.
