Offline Defragmenting an Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 database

Offline Defragmenting an Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 database in 4 easy steps

1. Open Exchange System Manager, right-click the information store that you want to defragment, and then click Dismount Store.

2. Backup the database files in case the defragment fails. Make sure you have enough free space on your hard drive to allow the defrag process to run and create a temp database during the defragmentation process.
Note: look at the /t option to relocate the temp database to a specified location.

3. Open the command prompt, change to the Exchsrvr\Bin folder, and then type the eseutil /d command, a database switch (path to the database file priv1.edb), and any options that you want to use.

4. Open Exchange System Manager, right-click the information store that you just defragmented, and then click Remount Store.
